Luke - San Diego Dog Training for Separation Anxiety
Luke, a Jack Russell Terrier is going home from Dog Training Camp in one day. He came to K9 Coach San Diego Dog Training Camp because he suffered from separation anxiety and his owners have to work, meaning that have to leave him alone during the day. So off to dog training boot camp he went and did very well in our Temecula location with his K9 Coach trainer, Carla.
Walking or jogging with Luke on leash is very important to Luke’s rehabilitation. Dogs don’t think like humans. Yes, they have emotions, but they do not live in the past or the future the way we do. Dogs do not “logic” the way humans do. They relate to dogs & humans in terms of leader & follower. “Leader” in dog speak means “the calm, cool & in-control” alpha. Simply put if you want to be the leader in your dog’s mind, you need to lead them physically and emotionally.
With timid and fearful dog behavior, we ignore the unwanted actions and move on… with a sit, a quiet, a place or some other action/command to re-channel negative energy into positive action. Luke gets tons of affection for the good behavior of a sit and so on, and quickly drops most of his fearful tendencies.
Sympathizing with a dog’s fearful behavior is one of the hardest things to modify in the human behavior. It takes practice act calm & cool with him when he whines, shakes or whimpers and with K9 Coach his people are going to have the help they need to see Luke through to a well-balanced happy life.
