Dublin Rhodesian Ridgeback & Dog Training Camp
Dog Training Camp here in San Diego is awesome simply because of all the activities you can do with your dog. From outdoor urban trails to dog beach, the dog lifestyle rocks around here.
Dublin has come to camp because she’s young and really had no idea of what “come here” means! It makes it difficult to take your dog anywhere under those circumstances.
Here at K9 Coach we believe that recall (or getting your dog to come to you no matter what) is the most important concept you can teach your dog at any age. Being dependent upon a leash when you are out and about is a worrisome feeling at best. There is always that fear of opening the car door, or dropping the leash accidentally and your dog is gone.
Dublin is coming along in her training. She’s still a pup, so practice and follow through are key to her success in keeping a solid recall. That means seeing her through to completion every time she’s asked to come.
Here’s a big tip for those of you struggling with this part of your dog’s training. If you know that there is no way you can back up the command “come”, don’t ask your dog to do it. Why? Because dogs learn and think in pictures and if you let your dog get away with not coming when you asked her to, she thinks she’s completed the picture of “come”. It’s the picture you clearly painted for her. Follow through! Its the fair thing in teaching your dog.
Come when called no matter what! It’s the number one big thing to practice until it’s permanent in any dogs’ life!
