Zach the Aussie Shepherd is ready to go home…

Well, not really, he’s having tons of fun so he’s just fine here.  The cool thing about being a dog, is when he gets home with his family, he’s going to have tons of fun there too.  Especially since he’s done dog training camp and his behavior is so much more pleasant…

Not that it wasn’t at all before… in fact, Zach is a very sweet dog.  He’s one of those that just grabs you when you see his smiling face looking at you with such a sense of all is well in the world just because he’s here!

Being an Aussie Shepherd, herding and nipping are his specialty… however,  that wasn’t going over so well with his family.  Particularly the 3 year old little darling girl who loves him, but doesn’t want him nipping at her hands, face, and clothes all the time.

He’s passed K9 Coach Dog Training Camp with flying colors and will be on his way home tomorrow to go do all kinds of cool things with his family… who are very excited for his return.

Ever think about the word “training” as fun?  How about San Diego Summer Camp?  Now that’s fun for a dog.

How about dog training? Fun?  It’s like anything else.  It can be work or it can be something that is really enjoyable.  It’s hard not to enjoy yourself when a dog like this Australlian Shepherd is smiling at you… wagging his little nub!

This is a great way to teach your dog to come to you… dogs learn in by attaching a word to the action in the moment.

So, if your dog likes to go get a ball, every time a scoop happens and your dog starts into that motion to come back to you… say the word… “come”.  Mark that moment with the word you want him to do.

It’s fun, and it really does help in the dog training process!

The cool thing about the dog training camp that Zach this Australian Shepherd signed up for is that he gets to go out and train for real life situations and learn how real good dog behavior should be.

I have a passion for training working dogs, especially working dogs that are smart. Thats pretty easy to find really, since most dogs have way more capability than people give them credit for.

Zach and one of my dogs went to the beach this morning and had a blast… so did I. It was so great to be able to watch them run, hard… and then come back to me whenever I called them.

Aussie Shepherds are definitely herding dogs so he tried as hard as he could to round up my Weimaraner, but she’s so fast… Zach got a great run in, lets just put it that way.

There were other dogs that came along… all I had to say was “leave it”, “let’s go” and off we went. No yelling, pulling (since there was no leash anyway), or chasing to get the two dogs attention.

I took a friend of mine, and he made the same comment I’ve heard from more than one person in the last week…. how cool it is to watch dogs be able to cut loose and run, watch the pure joy on their faces, the wags of the tail.

It brings a smile no matter what kind of day you’ve had. And that is a very cool thing about a trained dog.

Where does your dog sleep?

Many people here in San Diego & Temecula have told me that they were afraid to take their dog to training simply because they were afraid the dog trainer was going to say they couldn’t sleep with their dog anymore!

Not so here… in fact I sleep with my dogs… but, K9 Coach would like to know… where does your dog sleep?
