The K9 Coach phone rings and usually I am prepared for an interesting conversation about someone’s dog. Today it was a women who called about her Chocolate Labrador Retriever who needed some much needed obedience training.
The conversation struck me tonight since I could tell this women really wanted to get the best she could for her dog but was stuck on what criteria that might be in order to really get the job done. She kept asking, “Ok, but what is the best way to train my dog?… especially since I can’t get it done myself.”
She knew she wanted her dog to go to a board & train situation but couldn’t figure out how she would know if the dog training boot camp was going to work… did the dog really learn.
This is where it got fun for me because I find that it’s the reason I really like training dogs. It’s the success part. I explained to her that one of the major differences that I like to do in my San Diego and Temecula dog training camps is to teach her Lab what TO DO rather than waiting for her dog to do something wrong and then correct it.
Ahhhaww… was the response… and I love when that happens. It came clear to her that the most important thing about getting success with her dog after sending her off to Camp Encinitas was that she would be able to communicate with a trainer so not only did the dog learn while she was away… but SHE could learn from the way the dog trainer explained it to her… and then she said something completely outstanding….
….soooo taking “how much does it cost” out of the picture will get a great dog training result… finding the cheapest is probably a poor excuse for a band-aid not sticking to her dog’s well meaning paw! Exactly I said. It’s true in dog training too… you do get what you focus on… good training or cheap training. There is a lot of both out there.
Cool. Another lucky dog comes to Dog Training Camp from Carlsbad.
